My cousin's cooking improved after one week, so I ditched my fancy kitchen gadgets

Tbh I used to think you needed a sous vide machine and a $200 cast iron pan to make a decent steak, but then my cousin went from burning everything to nailing a perfect medium-rare in 7 days using just a regular skillet and a meat thermometer from Kroger, so why am I storing all this extra stuff in my tiny apartment?

I hear you, but I gotta disagree a bit. My buddy Jake tried the same thing last month, ditched his air fryer and Instant Pot after his sister cooked him a decent meal with just a pan. He lasted like 5 days before ordering a pizza because weeknight roasts and crispy wings just take way longer without the gadgets. That Kroger thermometer is solid, I use one too, but it doesn't replace the convenience when you're tired after work. I think the cousin probably just finally got the basics down, not that the fancy stuff was holding her back. Different tools for different days, you know?

The cousin likely just hit that moment where the basics click, and a thermometer fixes most of the guesswork people blame on cheap pans. Gadgets add speed and consistency, but they train you to skip the fundamentals that actually matter. Anyone can learn to do more with less, the real question is if they want to spend that extra time doing it.
