Tried to fix my own garbage disposal and flooded the kitchen instead

So I decided to be all handy yesterday and tackle the clogged garbage disposal myself. Watched a 10 minute video, grabbed a hex wrench, stuck it in the bottom hole. Turned it back and forth a few times, heard a pop, then water started gushing out from under the sink. Turns out I cracked the housing flange thingy, and now I gotta call a plumber tomorrow. Has anyone else tried a simple DIY fix that just made things 10 times worse?

Ngl the moment you said you heard a pop I physically cringed. That is never a good sound when you're dealing with plumbing, like ever. I did the exact same thing with a sink drain once and ended up with water all over my laminate flooring and had to rip it up because it warped. Honestly the hex wrench trick works like half the time and the other half you're just asking for disaster. Hope your plumber doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for that.

Used to think the hex wrench trick was the go-to fix for everything, but watching that sink drain fail changed my mind real quick. Water damage is no joke once it gets into the subfloor or under cabinets. Makes you wonder if calling a pro from the start is worth more than a DIY headache later.
