I finally figured out why my fridge was making that noise for 3 weeks

I was standing in my kitchen in Cleveland last Tuesday at 2am trying to find the source of this low hum that was driving me nuts. Turns out the back panel had a loose screw holding the condenser fan, so I tightened it with a dollar store screwdriver and the noise stopped cold. Has anyone else had a fridge make phantom sounds that only show up when you're about to sleep?

lol glad you found it, that humming at 2am is the worst. @jakeb25 is right though, it's always something tiny that makes you feel like a detective. I had a similar issue a few years back where the fridge was doing this random gurgle every 10 minutes or so, turned out the drain line was just slightly clogged with some gunk at the bottom. Poured some warm water and a bit of baking soda down it and it cleared right up. Now I check that little drain hole once a year just to be safe.

Dollar store screwdriver, that's a power move right there. I had a similar situation with my GE fridge last winter where it would let out this random clicking sound but only when the compressor kicked on late at night. I finally took the whole back panel off and found a wire that was just barely brushing against the fan blade every other rotation. Tucked it into a zip tie and that was it, dead silent for six months now. The frustrating part is how something so tiny can make you feel like you're living inside a horror movie at 2am. I bet half the fridges out there have some loose part that people just learn to ignore until they snap.
