Roasted the groom's tie at his own wedding, silence lasted 45 seconds
My cousin's wedding last Saturday, I thought I'd break the ice with the groom while he was adjusting his tie. I said 'nice tie, did you borrow it from your grandpa's fishing tackle box?' Big mistake. His bride's dad was standing right there wearing the exact same tie from his own wedding in 1989. Nobody said a word, my wife kicked me under the table, and the DJ cut the music awkwardly for a solid 45 seconds. Has anyone else accidentally roasted a family member in front of the wrong crowd and had the whole room just freeze?

Man, that is brutal. I felt the cringe through my phone reading that. You had no way of knowing the dad was standing right there with the same tie. But a 45 second silence is like a lifetime at a wedding. My uncle once asked my cousin when the baby was due, and she wasn't pregnant. Whole table went quiet too, but not that bad. Just know you gave them a story they'll tell forever. Hang in there, man.
