My uncle's golf joke shut down a whole funeral reception

At my cousin's wake last month in Columbus, my uncle thought it was the right time to tell the one about the three golfers and the nun. He got through the punchline and the room went so quiet you could hear the ice melting in the glasses across the hall. Has anyone else had a family member pick the absolute worst moment for a dad joke?

I mean, I get why that felt like the worst timing ever. But honestly, sometimes the awkward silence is exactly what a room full of sad people needs to snap out of it. I was at a funeral last year and my cousin did a terrible magic trick that bombed, and weirdly it made people actually start talking to each other after. Maybe your uncle just wanted to give everyone a tiny break from crying, even if it missed the mark.
