Joke about mother-in-law backfired at the dentist office in Tulsa
Told my dentist a quick one before he put the drill in. Said my mother-in-law's cooking was so bad the dog built a shelter under the porch. Dead silence for a solid 10 seconds. Then his assistant whispered she just moved her mom into assisted living that morning. He didn't even laugh, just handed me the bib and said open wide. Has anyone else had a joke land right on a fresh wound like that?

Ouch, that timing couldn't have been worse if you tried. Best move now is to just let it go and maybe crack a light joke next visit only if the mood seems right, because pushing it will make things weird for both of you. Dentists deal with nervous patients all day, so he probably forgot about it the second he picked up the drill.
