I finally stopped arguing with the customer who wanted a refund on a 2 year old grill
At my store in Cleveland last Tuesday, this guy brought back a propane grill he bought in 2021. He said it was defective, but honestly it was rusted all over and missing two wheels. I kept pointing at our 90 day return policy while he kept pointing at the burn marks on his patio. My manager came over, and instead of backing me up, she just processed the refund at half price, $175. That moment changed my approach. Now I ask what outcome they actually want before I ever say "no" or explain policy. Is it just me, or do other places train staff to bend the rules this much without telling anyone?
