Serious question, how do you split shared food when one roommate eats triple?
My roommate Marcus and I split groceries 50/50 for 8 months until I noticed he was eating about 3x my portion of snacks and frozen meals, so I brought it up last week and he said he thought we each just bought what we wanted. It hit different because I realized we never actually talked about the rules, we both assumed different things. Has anyone else dealt with a food budget blowup and what system actually worked for your house?

Did you catch that podcast about shared living spaces where they talked about how most roommate fights come from unspoken rules? Cause that's exactly what happened here. You both had different plans and nobody wrote anything down. My old roommate and I fixed this by making a simple list on the fridge. Each week we wrote our names and what we bought, and anything in the shared basket was fair game for both. But stuff like protein powder or fancy coffee stayed personal. We also started doing a quick 2 minute check every Sunday about what was low and who was grabbing it next. Took the guesswork out completely. You just gotta get past the awkward part and make the rules clear, even if it feels dumb to spell it out.
