PSA: Blasting that one song hit 1,000 plays and it changed my ears
I kept a running tally in my head and finally hit 1,000 full-volume plays of the same track in my car, a 2014 hatchback with blown rear speakers. The milestone scared me because I realized I hadn't actually listened to the lyrics in maybe 300 of those plays, I was just chasing the drop at 0:47. That number mattered because it meant I'd turned a song I loved into a comfort blanket, not a listening experience. Last Tuesday I turned it off halfway through and the silence felt louder than the bass ever did, which was a weird gut punch. Now I'm second guessing every song I think I like, am I cranking it for the sound or just the habit? Has anyone else hit a play count that made them question their own music taste?
