Unpopular opinion: I used to laugh off double-checking load charts for easy lifts.

A close call on a house project nearby proved me wrong. Now I always verify before I hoist.

Wait, a HOUSE project used a crane lift?

You really haven't seen a crane at a house site? They used one on my street to drop a new roof truss package because the truck couldn't get close. It was like watching a slow-motion video game move. Probably cost more than my car, but hey, no back injuries.

Complacency on routine jobs is where most close calls happen. Your brain goes on autopilot with familiar tasks, skipping the vital checks. That near miss is a cheap lesson compared to the alternative.
