Thought I could beat the wind chart with a lighter load, nope nope nope
Last Tuesday in Corpus Christi I had a 4 ton spreader bar swap, figured I could push through 28 mph gusts since the picks were only around 60% of my chart. First swing the load started dancing like a fish on a line, I had to set it down twice before I even got it over the seawall. My spotter kept yelling down at me to just wait it out, but I had a crew of 6 standing around getting paid by the hour. What I learned is the chart says what it says for a reason, lighter load does not mean more wind room when you're working near a building edge. Anyone else ever get humbled trying to fudge the weather limits, or is it just me being stubborn?
