Just realized my uncle's famous photo of the JFK crowd was actually taken 2 blocks from the motorcade and he never mentioned it
I was going through my uncle's old boxes in Fresno last month and found a stack of photos he took in Dallas in November 1963. One shows a crowd looking toward Dealey Plaza, but the back said '2 blocks off Elm, couldn't get close.' I always heard the family story that he was standing right there when it happened. When I asked my aunt about it, she said he never claimed to be a witness, just that people assumed it for 50 years and he stopped correcting them. Now I wonder how many other famous 'eyewitness' stories are just assumptions that got passed down. Has anyone else found a family story that turned out different once you saw the actual proof?
