I finally understood why the old guys swore by magnesium floats after a job in Spokane.

We had a hot, windy day on a big slab and my steel trowel was sealing it up way too fast, leaving me with a rough finish. Ever since, I keep a mag float in the truck for those conditions, anyone else find they use them more than they used to?

Yeah, I had the same thing happen on a driveway in Boise last summer. I mean, I basically live with my mag float now when it's dry like that.

Oh man, @elizabeth900, I hear you on the mag float life. But just a heads up, on a driveway you gotta be careful with that steel trowel finish. If it's too dry, a mag float can actually pull fines to the surface and weaken the top layer. I usually switch to a wood float for the last pass in those conditions.

Wait, so I'm not the only one who's been overworking the slab? Good tip from @torres.sage, guess my mag float and I need to cool it sometimes.
