Why do techs keep flashing BIOS on a machine that just needs a new CMOS battery?
Pulled a client's PC into the bench on Tuesday and the clock was resetting to 2009 every boot, so the last tech flashed the BIOS twice and charged them $180 for it. All it needed was a $3 CR2032 cell and five minutes. Stop treating every weird boot issue like a firmware problem when a dying battery is staring you in the face, has anyone else seen this hack job lately?
Wait, they flashed it twice? That's not just lazy, that's them making the problem worse and billing for it. A dead CMOS battery is like the first thing you check when the clock goes stupid, so if a "tech" can't figure that out maybe they shouldn't be touching people's machines at all.
