That one dive supervisor who checked my mask seal twice

Back in March off the rigs near Aberdeen, an old supervisor named Dougie pulled me aside before a 20-meter bell run. He said, 'Your mask is fit like a Sunday suit, lad, but it'll leak on the way down, so reseat it and count to ten.' I did, and sure enough, that second seal saved me from a face full of cold water at depth. Anyone else had a supervisor give a weird pre-dive trick that actually worked?

Yeah, did he have you do the thing where you suck in hard and hold it for a few seconds? That's the one that always catches leaks for me. I mean, you think it's sealed fine and then you do that and hear that tiny hiss, so yeah, Dougie knew what he was talking about.
