Switched from wetnotes to a whiteboard slate 8 years ago
Back in 2016 I was using those small wetnotes you clip to your wrist. Kept losing the pencil underwater and the paper got useless after one dive. Buddy of mine told me to just get a simple whiteboard slate from the hardware store for 8 bucks. Been using the same one ever since, just gotta remember to rough up the surface with sandpaper so the marker actually sticks. It holds up fine on salvage jobs and inspection dives. Anyone else still using old school slates or did everyone move to digital?

Eight years on the same slate from the hardware store? That's wild. I kill my markers within like three dives, can't imagine that thing still working.

Wait, are we gatekeeping how long a slate lasts now? If the thing still wipes clean and writes fine, why would you toss it just because some people burn through markers faster?

Right? I used to think the same way, thought you had to replace them every season or whatever. But honestly hearing that makes me want to actually take better care of mine now and see how long I can stretch it out.
