Overheard a dive supervisor say something that stuck with me...
I was waiting for a tank fill last Friday at a shop near Galveston and heard this older supervisor tell a rookie "the most dangerous 10 feet of a dive is the first 10 feet after you hit the surface." Never thought about it that way before... it made me realize how many close calls I've had right at the end of a job when everyone's tired and rushing. Has anyone else noticed that post-dive hazards are way more common than you'd expect?

Wait, "the first 10 feet after you hit the surface"? That's WILD. I had to read that twice because it's SO backwards from what you'd think. Danger when you're BACK on the boat? But honestly, it makes PERFECT sense when you think about how stupid people act at the end. Like last month, this guy on my trip was so eager to get his gear off he nearly tripped over the tank rack and went face first into the railing. Plus I've seen people just toss their fins anywhere and almost knock someone else overboard. That supervisor is a GENIUS for pointing that out.
