A rig supervisor in the Gulf made me question my whole approach to mixed gas

I was on a sat job off Venice, Louisiana last month, and this old supervisor with 30 years in told me he never runs trimix below 200 feet unless the job absolutely demands it. He said he's seen too many guys get hooked on the stuff for simple bell runs, and it just adds cost and risk for zero benefit. At first I thought he was stuck in the past, but then he walked me through a specific job where a helium shortage would've canceled the whole dive if they hadn't planned around air. It hit different because he wasn't talking theory, he had actual invoices and logbooks to back it up. Has anyone else worked with a supervisor who pushes back on exotic gas mixes, and did it change how you bid jobs?
