I used to buy every variant cover, now I only grab one per issue

Back in 2019 I was dropping $60 a month on 3 or 4 variant covers for Batman each release. Now I just pick the standard cover or whatever the store has on the rack for $3.99. What changed was moving into a smaller apartment with limited shelf space. Has anyone else cut back on variants after realizing they just pile up?

Wow, I did the same thing with my old X-Men Gold variants, they make pretty good drink coasters actually!

$60 a month on Batman variants" is a mood. I once literally used a variant cover as a coaster because I had nowhere else to put it. My wallet and my shelf are both happier now.

Funny how that same mindset creeps into everything else too. I've used old promo CDs as frisbees and empty candle jars as pen holders. Once you realize something has outlived its original purpose, you either repurpose it or it just becomes clutter. Feels like half of modern consumer culture is just paying for stuff you'll eventually use as a paperweight.
