Wrote off single origin beans as snobbery until a neighbor forced me to try some

My buddy Dave from down the street brought over a bag of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe last Tuesday and brewed it in my Mr. Coffee before I could stop him... I was ready to hate it but that blueberry note hit me like a truck. Now I'm three weeks deep into ordering from a roaster in Portland and my crew keeps asking why I'm not drinking the diner blend anymore. Anyone else get humbled by a specific bean or region they thought was all hype?

I mean it's just beans and hot water at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong I like good coffee but I'm not about to start mailing away for it or anything.

Oh absolutely, it's just "beans and hot water" until you taste the kind that doesn't taste like burnt dirt lmao. I used to say the exact same thing until a friend brought me a bag from some random roaster in Portland and I had to sit down and question everything I knew about coffee. Now I'm one of those people who'll drive across town for a bag of single origin Ethiopian beans because apparently I have no self control. It's a slippery slope from "beans and hot water" to "actually I can taste notes of blueberry and chocolate in this pour-over" and you don't even see it coming. But hey, at least you're saving money and time by not being a coffee dork, so maybe you're the smart one here lol.
