My first real project crashed and I lost two days of work

I was building a simple weather app and forgot to save my code before my laptop battery died. It was the first time I felt like I was actually making something, and then it was just gone. How do you get better at remembering to save your work?

Man that's such a gut punch... been there for sure. @the_anna is right about auto-save, that's a lifesaver. I also started using git for even small stuff, just committing every time I get a piece working. It feels like overkill but it saves you when stuff goes wrong.

Oh man, my buddy lost a whole day's work on his game mod last month. His cat jumped on his keyboard and somehow closed everything without saving. He just sat there staring at the screen for like ten minutes. Now he uses version control for everything, even his grocery lists, lol.

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. I got into the habit of hitting save after every tiny change, like a nervous tick. Have you tried setting up auto-save in your editor?
