The 2019 advice about heat pumps I shrugged off
Back in 2019 an HVAC guy in Portland told me to get a heat pump before the rebates dried up. I figured he was just selling something. Three years later my gas bill hit $230 in one February, so I finally switched, and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Has anyone else put off a retrofit because the timing felt off, only to regret it?

Wait, did you actually run the numbers on what the heat pump costs you per month now versus what you were paying for gas in the winter? Because I keep hearing people say the switch only pays off if you stay in the house for like seven years, but then my neighbor swapped his old furnace out and his summer cooling bills dropped so much it basically paid for itself in two summers. What really sold me was asking the guy to show me the math on paper, not just the rebate talk. You mentioned the gas bill hitting $230, but what were you paying for electricity back then, cause that's the part everybody forgets to compare.
