Did they actually confirm the trees survived or just take your money and move on?

Three years ago I paid a guy named Dave $200 to plant five arborvitae along my fence line. He came out in April, dug the holes, dropped them in, and I never saw him again. One of them turned brown by July and two more leaned over like they were trying to escape. I called Dave three times and he never answered.
