Solar panel inverter gave out during a heat wave in Phoenix
My 6-year-old inverter died last Tuesday when temps hit 115 degrees. The warranty was done and the replacement quote came back at $1,800 for parts and labor. Has anyone else had inverters fail in extreme heat, and do the newer models actually handle it better?
Heat alone usually isn't what kills an inverter, it's the heat plus the unit being in direct sun or in a garage that turns into an oven. So a new one won't magically fix it if it's still mounted somewhere that hits 140 degrees inside. That said, newer units do have better thermal design and some are rated for higher temp ranges, so it's worth checking the spec sheet before you drop $1,800. Also worth getting a second quote, since that price seems on the high side depending on what size system you have. Six years is about normal life for these things in Phoenix honestly.
