PSA: A climate scientist called out my recycling habits and I had to change
I used to toss greasy pizza boxes in the recycling bin until a researcher at a local talk told me one contaminated batch can ruin a whole truckload. She said it costs recycling plants an extra $50 per ton to sort out food waste. Now I compost or trash the cardboard instead.

Yeah, I feel that. I used to shove everything in the recycling too, pizza grease and all, until a friend who works at the plant told me the same thing about how one bad batch messes up tons of stuff. It's honestly kind of embarrassing to realize I was making things harder for the people sorting it all out. Now I just scrape the box clean and toss it in the trash if there's any real grease left.
