My neighborhood composting project turned into a mess last summer
I started a small composting bin in my backyard in Denver last June, thinking it would be easy. After three months, I had a pile of rotting food that attracted raccoons and smelled terrible. My neighbor Mrs. Chen showed me how to balance greens and browns with a simple 2:1 ratio. Now I use a sealed tumbler and it works great. Has anyone else dealt with pests ruining their compost setup?

Wait till you get bears, Denver's not far from the mountains. A sealed tumbler just makes you a fancy raccoon buffet.

Yeah @west.anna is spot on about the bears, I learned that the hard way camping near Estes Park last summer. What finally worked for me was switching to a metal water bottle with a locking lid and keeping it in a smell-proof bag when I'm not carrying it. Still not perfect but way fewer curious critters poking around my stuff.
