I was just reading about how much energy my old cable box uses on standby
I saw a chart in a library book about home energy use, and it said a single cable box can pull around 30 watts even when it's 'off'. That's like leaving a light bulb on all day and night! Does anyone know if the newer streaming boxes are any better about this?

Honestly that "like leaving a light bulb on" part got me. I used to think standby was nothing, but that's a real eye-opener.

But honestly, the cost is so small per device that it's barely worth the hassle of unplugging everything.

What gets me is how it adds up across a whole house. That little red light on the TV, the microwave clock, the charger brick with nothing plugged in. It's like a dozen tiny lights on all the time.
