Found a dead squirrel in my compost bin last week
I was turning my backyard compost pile in Portland and unearthed a whole dead squirrel right in the middle of the coffee grounds. No idea how it got there, but now i'm way more careful about what goes in and it weirdly made me feel more connected to the whole cycle thing. Anyone else find random wildlife in their compost?

Dude a whole squirrel? That's wild. I found a half eaten rat once in my pile over in Tacoma and it totally weirded me out for a minute but you're right about that cycle thing. It's kind of harsh but it makes you realize your pile is basically a little ecosystem for everything.

Man my buddy Dave had a similar thing happen in his backyard pile over in Kent. He was turning it one weekend and found this half eaten opossum just sitting there. The head was gone but the rest was still intact. He said the smell was something else but he just mixed it in with some leaves and straw. A few weeks later he found a family of raccoons hanging around that spot at night. Nature is crazy like that.
