The mistake people make with creosote logs

I keep seeing people toss a creosote log in the fireplace and think they're done with cleaning. Those logs only knock off the loose fluffy stuff, not the hard glazed creosote that causes chimney fires. Last month I swept for a guy in Portland who had used three of them and still had a quarter inch of buildup. Has anyone else had to clean up after someone relied on those things too much?

Marketed as fireplace magic so you buy three and still call the sweep anyway.

Ha, @perez.patricia you hit the nail on the head. I bought two "magic" logs last winter and still had ash all over my rug after one use. Now I just buy them for the smell and call a real sweep twice a season. I guess I'm the fool who pays extra for a pretty lie.
