Shoutout to the old-timer who showed me his trick for spotting hidden creosote glazing
I was at a job in a 1920s house last fall, and the homeowner told me his dad used to run a brush through and then hold a mirror up to the flue to catch glazing that a light couldn't show. Have any of you tried that or got a different method for finding the sneaky buildup?

Man, I used to be all about the high-end inspection cameras and thought old tricks were just superstition. But after trying the mirror thing on a tough flue last month, I gotta say it caught a thin layer my scope totally missed. Really changed how I look at the simple stuff now.

Mirror trick probably works because it's like those little habits we all have that turn out way more useful than they first seem. Sometimes the simplest fix catches what all the fancy tools miss.
