Wasted $14 on arcade tokens for my kid last Saturday before realizing the free splash pad two blocks over was the whole answer
Took my 7 year old to that retro arcade on Grand last Saturday, dropped $14 on tokens and she burned through them in maybe 20 minutes and then just wanted to sit on the bench. On the walk back to the car we cut through the park and she saw the splash pad running, and she didn't want to leave for an hour and a half. Kids don't care about the price tag, they care about getting wet and running around with other kids doing the same. Now I keep a towel in the trunk and it's our Saturday thing, $0 every time. What free spots around your town did you sleep on until your kid basically dragged you there?

Fourteen dollars for 20 minutes? That's almost a dollar a minute, which is wild when you add it up like that. And the free thing was sitting two blocks away the whole time. Kids really do just want water and other kids, the fancy stuff barely registers. We slept on the creek behind the library for months before my daughter found it. Now that's our whole summer.
