Overheard some guy at the park say he plans dates around free local concerts

I was grabbing coffee last Tuesday and this dude at the next table was telling his friend how he finds free band schedules for every park in town and packs a picnic blanket. He said he's done over a dozen dates that way and never spent more than fifteen bucks on snacks. Makes me wonder why I've been dropping forty bucks on dinner and a movie every time, anyone else think that's a smarter move?

Funny you mention that, my buddy Craig once took a girl to a free polka concert in the park and they got rained out halfway through.

Is it really that big of a deal though? It's a free concert in a park, not like they had tickets to something fancy. Getting rained out halfway through just sounds like a funny story to tell later. People act like every date has to be perfect, but honestly, those messed up moments are the ones you remember. I bet they laugh about it now, so no harm done.
