Hot take: the $9 movie theater near me beats any $60 streaming bundle and nobody I know agrees
Everyone I talk to says going to the movies is dead because tickets cost too much. But the second-run theater in my town charges $3 on Sundays and $9 any other night, and they still pop fresh popcorn for $4. I started going twice a month by myself and it costs me maybe $26 total. A friend pays $75 a month for four streaming services and still says there is nothing to watch. I did the math on napkins at the counter one night and figured out I see about 6 movies for the price of one month of his setup. The seats are old and one screen has a scratch, but I saw a full crowd laugh at a comedy there that got zero buzz online. People act like cheap fun is only hiking or board games. Cinemas are still standing in small towns doing this. Anybody know other spots with cheap second-run tickets, or is my $9 place a fluke?
Read somewhere that second-run theaters are making a comeback in smaller towns because the big chains priced everyone out. My cousin's place in Ohio does $5 Tuesdays and it's packed every week, so you're not a fluke.
