Tbh @wyattrobinson nailed it with the thin layer advice. I wasted so much time messing with brushes and getting crap results until a buddy handed me a roller and I finally got it right.

Man that's exactly how I felt until I borrowed one from a buddy in Tucson. The trick is you gotta use a real thin layer and work fast or it'll start skinning over before you get it spread. I was using a cheap brush before and it just left all these bubbles and uneven spots that drove me crazy. The roller gets it down smooth in half the time once you figure out the right pressure.
