Rant: I spent 6 years stapling tack strip through the pad, and a $4 tool made me feel dumb
I always stapled tack strip right through the pad because that's how the guy who trained me did it back in 2011, and I never questioned it. Then last month I was doing a 1,200 square foot stretch in a rental in Mesa and the homeowner's brother, who does commercial work, watched me for two minutes and asked why I wasn't pulling the pad back first. He showed me his $4 flat bar trick where the strip sits flat on the concrete, and the pad tucks behind it after. The stretch came out tighter on the first try, no ripples at the seams, and I didn't have to fight the staples popping loose on the second wall. I've done probably 300 jobs the old way and now I'm wondering how many callbacks I ate because of it. Anyone else get shown up by a guy who just happened to walk by the job?
