Debate: Should you cheap out on a framing nailer or spend the cash?

I went back and forth for weeks before buying a nailer. Ended up dropping $400 on a name brand one after my buddy swore his $80 special almost took his thumb off. Now I'm thinking maybe the cheap one woulda been fine for my little projects around the house. The expensive one drives nails perfect every time but it hurt my wallet. Has anyone else gotten burned by a budget nailer or saved good money going cheap?

You ever had a nailer jam on you mid-project, then spend twenty minutes fighting it while your arms are shaking from holding the thing up? That's the difference right there. My buddy went budget with a Harbor Freight special, and the first time he tried to fire it, the nail sunk halfway into the wood and the safety lock stuck. We spent an hour taking it apart with a screwdriver. Meanwhile, my Bostitch has been through two kitchen remodels and a shed build without a single hiccup. So yeah, the $400 stung, but it's paid for itself in saved time and frustration.

Three years ago I wouldve argued you were crazy spending that much on a nailer. But then I helped my cousin frame a deck with his cheapo Paslode knockoff and we cleared two jams in the first hour alone. I bought a Bostitch the next week and havent looked back since.

Hear you on the jam thing - but how often are you actually running into jams with your Bostitch? Like once a year or almost never? Trying to figure out if the premium is buying peace of mind or actual reliability differences.
