Caulk line trick for long seams I wish I knew 10 years ago

I was finishing a long baseboard run in a hallway remodel last week, around 30 feet of seam between the trim and the floor. Every time I tried to run a straight caulk bead, it either came out wavy or I'd stop and start and leave little bumps. I tried tape, I tried those fancy caulk guides, nothing worked clean. Then an old timer on site told me to wet my finger with denatured alcohol instead of water and pull it in one smooth pass, no stopping. The alcohol keeps the caulk from sticking to your skin and it glides instead of dragging. I did the whole run in about 3 minutes and it looked like a machine laid it. Has anyone else tried this or do you have a better method for long caulk lines?

Did you try the alcohol trick with a gloved hand instead? That's what finally clicked for me on a long window sill, wet glove plus one steady pull and it came out way cleaner than any tool I've used.
