Bought a $300 laser level for a simple deck job and it turned into a whole thing
Had to square up a small deck in my buddy's backyard, figured I'd finally get a nice self-leveling laser. The thing beeped and flashed for ten minutes straight, refusing to settle. Turns out his yard has a SLOPE, who knew? Ended up using my old 4-foot level and some string anyway. The client's dog kept chasing the laser dot the entire time I was trying to figure it out. Anyone have a laser they trust that actually works on uneven ground?

Feel your pain, that sounds like a total nightmare. Dogs plus a freaking out laser is the worst combo.

Used to think those fancy lasers were the only way to go for any real job. Watching that dog go nuts while your tool freaks out is a pretty good reality check, isn't it? Makes you wonder if we overcomplicate simple work just for the sake of the gear. My old level and a chalk line haven't failed me since that day.
