Picked the security+ cert over a bootcamp, dodged a bullet it seems
I had to choose between a 12 week coding bootcamp for $8k or studying for Sec+ on my own last spring. Went with the cert because a buddy in IT said bootcamps are hit or miss, and honestly I landed a help desk job in 3 months. Anyone else skip the fancy training and just cram for a cert instead?
Man, I WAS the guy who thought bootcamps were the golden ticket. I almost dropped $9k on one last year before my buddy talked some sense into me. He showed me how many bootcamp grads were still fighting for the same entry level jobs I could get with a Sec+ and a few home labs. So I bought a $40 study guide, watched Professor Messer on my lunch breaks, and passed in six weeks. Now I'm sitting at a help desk making the same as the guy who did the full stack program and he's STILL job hunting. Wish I could tell my past self to stop overthinking it, the cert route was the REAL move all along.
