My salary negotiation tactic was actually costing me money for 4 years

I always started talks by saying my current salary, thinking it built trust. Last month a recruiter straight up told me I was leaving 15k on the table every time by anchoring myself low before they even made an offer. Anyone else have a hiring manager or recruiter pull back the curtain on a mistake like this?

Is it really leaving money on the table if you're being honest and upfront about where you're at? Some hiring managers value transparency and might offer you a fair number right away without playing games. Being open about your salary has worked fine for me and saved a lot of back-and-forth time.

Whoa, hang on, you've actually had a hiring manager be honest and upfront with you about salary from the jump? Like without making you jump through three rounds of interviews first? That sounds fake but I'm choosing to believe you, that's wild.
