My mentor in Baltimore gave me one piece of advice in 2019 that I still use every single week
Back in 2019 I was working my first real office job in Baltimore and I was drowning. I'd stay until 7pm every night trying to finish everything and still feel behind. My mentor Linda pulled me aside one Tuesday and said something simple: write down the three things that actually matter each morning, and let the rest wait. I thought it was too easy to work. But I tried it for a month straight and by week three I was leaving at 5:30 with my real work done. The weird part is nobody noticed the small stuff I stopped doing. Six years later I still do this every morning with a cheap notebook from the drugstore, and it saved me when I switched careers in 2022. Has anyone else had a mentor give them one small habit that ended up mattering way more than the big speeches?
