I finally got promoted after 18 months of waiting on a response

I applied for a senior role at my company back in January 2023, and they didn't even schedule an interview until September. The whole time I thought I was being ignored, turns out my boss's boss just kept 'forgetting' to forward my application. Has anyone else had a promotion or job change drag out way longer than it should have?

That part about your boss's boss 'forgetting' to forward your application really got me. Honestly, I used to roll my eyes at people blaming management for these delays, but now I get it.

The gaslighting runs so deep in workplaces it bleeds into everything else. Like have you noticed how customer service reps will tell you "the system just glitched" when really they just didn't do something? Or how landlords will say the check got lost in the mail when they forgot to cash it? It's the same pattern of shifting blame onto some vague system or accident instead of just admitting human error. Once you see it you can't unsee it. Makes you wonder how many times we've all been played by someone's "forgetfulness" when it was really just them not caring enough to follow through.

Read this book called "The Culture Cure" that talks about how healthcare systems do the exact same thing with patient complaints. It's wild how this "forgetfulness" pattern shows up everywhere once you start looking.
