Heads up... trusting a verbal offer without a written one left me with no job after quitting my old one...

Oof, "trusting a verbal offer" is a painful lesson. I learned that one early, back when I was dumb enough to think a handshake and a smile meant something was solid. My own version of that story involves a lot of ramen noodles for a couple months. You just never know what can fall through until it's actually on paper. Getting it in writing isn't about being rude, it's about basic survival.

But a handshake deal used to be all you needed... overdoing the paperwork can kill the good faith in a deal.
