Dropped $45 on a bootleg DVD of the banned Ren and Stimpy episode at a flea market in Ohio
So I finally found a copy of "Man's Best Friend" at a flea market outside Columbus and paid $45 cash for it, thinking I hit the jackpot. Got it home and the disc was just a blank silver top with a sharpie label, and it played 12 minutes of someone's home video of a birthday party before it froze. I checked the guy's booth two weeks later and he was gone, so that money is just gone. The lesson is that anyone selling "lost" or "banned" episodes on a burned disc is almost always faking it, no matter how good the cover art looks. I've seen people on here say they dropped $100+ on similar fakes at cons, so I guess $45 is a cheap way to learn. Has anyone actually gotten a real uncut copy of a pulled episode from a seller like that, or is it always a scam?
Buddy of mine drove 3 hours to a horror con in Kentucky for a "lost" Faces of Death tape, dropped 60 bucks, got home and it was just a recorded over copy of Speed 2. He tried to get his money back through PayPal and the seller had already closed the account. Same deal as you, the booth guy was long gone by the next show. I honestly dont know a single person who scored a real pulled episode that way, its always a fake or a dub of a dub of a youtube rip. Best bet is trading with collectors you actually know or digging through old forums where people have been vouching for each other for years, not some rando with a folding table.
