The 3-strike private message rule that saved my friendship circle
After a close friend got dragged by a group chat over an old tweet of hers, I noticed everyone was walking on eggshells. I started using a trick where before I send a critical message, I ask myself if the issue still matters in 3 days. If it doesn't, I don't send it. It ended up cutting way down on those pile-on moments where one person says something and 10 people jump in to cancel. Has anyone else found a personal filter that keeps you from becoming part of the mob?

My buddy once blew up a whole camping trip because he sent a sarcastic text about someone's cooking. The problem was he sent it to the group chat instead of the side chat with me. Three days later nobody cared about the burnt burgers, but the damage was done. That's when I started doing something similar, but with a timer on my phone. If I type something spicy, I set a 10 minute timer and put the phone down. Usually by the time it goes off I've already moved on to thinking about what's for dinner or if my fantasy team is gonna win this week. It's not perfect, but it keeps me from being that guy who starts a fire over nothing.
