Took 3 blown trips to learn I was packing my tent wrong

I used to just cram my tent back into the stuff sack however it fit, (you know, shoving it in like a sleeping bag). After a trip to Red River Gorge last fall, I noticed a seam was getting frayed where it kept folding the same way. A guy at the campsite showed me how to roll it around the poles instead, and now it actually fits better and takes half the time to set up. Has anyone else had gear last longer just by storing it differently?

My buddy swore by vacuum sealing his sleeping bag for storage. Shrunk it down to the size of a football but it took him forever to get the air back in at camp.

Yeah but that re-fluff wait is brutal" is exactly what my buddy Dave found out the hard way. He vacuum sealed his sleeping bag for a car camping trip and ended up sitting there for 20 minutes trying to get it to puff back up in the dark. Never saw him do that again after that one miserable night.
