The $38 headlamp that finally made me ditch my old lantern habit
Been camping for 20 years and I always lugged around this heavy 6 pound propane lantern. Last fall up near Flagstaff I got caught in a drizzle and the mantles just crumbled. Picked up a cheap LED headlamp for 38 bucks at the gas station out of desperation. It's not fancy, but that thing ran three straight nights on one battery pack. My hands were free to set up the tent and cook, and I didn't have to worry about glass breaking in my pack. Now I look at my old lantern sitting in the garage and wonder why I carried that brick for so long. Anyone else made the switch and never looked back, or am I missing something about the old school glow?
