The 1998 map case that made me ditch paper navigation for good
Back in 1998 I drove from Tulsa to the Ozarks with a folding paper map spread across my dash. Every gas stop meant refolding it wrong and trying to find the crease again, took me 20 minutes each time. I kept a pencil behind my ear to mark campsites off the main roads, and if it rained the map turned to mush. Last spring I finally switched to downloaded offline maps on my phone after a trip to Broken Bow where the service died for 30 miles. The change happened because I got tired of replacing soggy maps that cost me $6 each at the visitor center. Now I just pin the spot and zoom in, no more fighting with creases or wet paper. Anyone else hold onto paper maps longer than they should have, or was I just stubborn?

Those soggy $6 maps were the exact reason I finally saw the light too.
