Pro tip: test your new water filter at home, not 6 miles up a trail in RMNP
Bought a squeeze filter at the REI in Denver two days before a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, and it clogged solid about 6 miles in at Thunder Lake. I stood there squeezing that bag until my hands hurt while my buddy filled his bottle from his own filter without a problem. Ended up boiling water on my Jetboil for 20 minutes, which killed my fuel and made a 3 day trip into a long walk with cold dinners. Now I run a full liter through any new filter in my kitchen sink before it ever sees a trailhead. How do you all break in a new filter before trusting it on a real trip?
