Old coleman propane lantern vs. LED lanterns on a rainy trip last week
I brought both to a campsite near Trout Lake last week and the old coleman absolutely wrecked the LED one in the fog. The LED just bounced light back at me, but that propane flame cut right through. Anyone else stick with the old gear for certain weather?

Wait did you have the glass globe on the coleman or one of those mesh reflector things? Ive been curious if the glass actually helps with fog or if its just the warmth from the propane that does the trick. The LED light bouncing back sounds like a nightmare honestly, especially when youre trying to navigate wet ground or set up camp in the dark. I gotta ask though, was the coleman loud the whole time or did it settle down after a bit? My old man had one that sounded like a jet engine and it drove me nuts lol.

... and honestly I think people overthink the whole fog thing. It's just a lantern. It throws heat, that heat warms the air a bit, the fog isn't gonna settle right on the globe or the reflector either way. The glass globe does help cut down some of the bounceback if you're using a bright bulb, but with the mesh it's basically the same deal just a little more scattered. As for the noise, yeah the Coleman ones are loud. They all are. It's not a jet engine but it's a constant hiss. You get used to it after the first 10 minutes or you don't and then it's just annoying. But it's not like it's ruining your trip or anything.
